Chapter Introduction

I know, shipping 200 teenagers from all over the world into an IB school in an island country in Central America sounds like a crazy Lord-of-the-Flies-ish social experiment. But luckily, none of the plots went like Lord of the Flies.

Although culture all left an inscription on our bodies, in daily life, our backstories don’t unravel themselves. We laugh together, stress over the IB together, study together, dance together, and goof around like teenagers together. It’s only through long-lasting midnight insomnia conversations and small pieces of hints from chit-chats that the streaks of our past in places all over the world become clearer. Often, these stories amaze me with the feeling, “Why even is someone so impressive in the same school with me.”

Well, so that’s that, there are many reasons why I wanted to write these. You can think of it as some sort of representation of cultural diversity, some sort of revelation of human complexity, or just simply my brag about what amazing friends I’ve made here in UWC Costa Rica.
