The series “hope” originates from our visit to The House of Gratitude, a charity organization that provides free accommodations for financially insecure families that come to Shanghai for cancer treatment. The house occupies the first floor of a residential building near the renowned Xinhua Hospital. Over the past nine years, it has welcomed over three hundred families. We met and interviewed the founder, Shitou, and the parents of the children. We were touched by the strength we saw blooming: transcending physical and psychological battles against disease was unity, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of hope. As travelers through the tunnel of life, we carry the same awe to what makes us human, and the most sincere prayers and wishes for the light that will shine through.
